Half Full (vegetarian review)

/ Updated on May 30, 2014

I dined at Half Full this evening for the zillionth time, so I thought I'd write about it while my taste buds were still singing!

Half Full serves 8×12 handmade pizzas and that's it. And they do it very, very well. So often when you have pizza, the sauce is good but the crust has no flavor. Or the cheese is amazing but the sauce is nothing to write home about. Delightfully, that is not the case here. The crust is superb – thin, crisp in the right places… the sauces are divine and the toppings are first class.

Speaking of toppings, they offer everything from granny smith apples to Dubliner cheese to homemade olive relish to caramelized onions. Their basic model is the Smokin' Margherita with roasted garlic sauce, oven roasted tomatoes, smoked mozzarella and fresh basil (which they grow in two huge planters located just outside the front door). But feel free to let your imagination run wild. You can choose from three sauces: roasted tomato, basil pesto or roasted garlic. Add that to the smoked mozzarella, and your choice of over 15 vegetarian gourmet toppings and WELCOME TO PARADISE!

This is the tiniest restaurant you can imagine, with twenty something seats and the kitchen snuggled into just 500 square feet. There's another six or seven chairs outside tucked-in just behind the basil planters. Tight spaces are fun because the proximity to other patrons makes it easy to strike up a conversation with the folks visiting from Wisconsin or the couple who just moved to Lewes.

The beer and wine list changes constantly and I've been very pleased with their selections. If you go on Wednesday night and order a bottle of wine, you get a free pizza. Desserts are simple and delish. There's always some type of brownie and one or two cookie choices. We all thought the brownie went very well with the lovely Chianti we selected.

Half Full is at 113 Market Street in Lewes 302-645-8877. Take a look at the pizza menu here.
