It's a brewery. No, it's a restaurant. No, it's a liquor store. No, it's a distillery. No, it's a pub…. Well, if it's Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats in Rehoboth, it's all of those things including, back in 1995, the world's smallest commercial brewery. Over twenty years later they now distribute over 20 styles of beer to well over 25 states. Pretty impressive for that original cottage-lookin' building on Rehoboth Avenue. And 'til you see the brewery in Milton (read about it — and the food there — by clicking here). Not to mention the extensive remodel that was completed in spring 2017 on Rehoboth Avenue: an entertainment venue, a brand new dining room and a shiny brand new kitchen for DFH Brewings and Eats, and even easier access to Chesapeake & Maine restaurant right next door.The brand-new long-awaited Dogfish Head Brewpub/Restaurant/Entertainment complex is open!

The original building was razed in fall 2017 and was resurrected as a glassed-in merchandise center and the small on-site brewery. The entire complex allows access to both restaurants and a fun courtyard.

I've got to get this out in the open: The mac & cheese is ridiculously good. Get ready for an upscale taste – this ain't the stuff in the blue and yellow box. And of course they come with a couple of crispy wings on top! Speaking of wings, we also liked the wings. Chef Zach Dick manages to keep them crispy while still totally saucy. Don't miss the grilled cheese sandwich. I love to get it with a side of DFH's particularly good cucumber & tomato salad. Yes, the fries are great, but that salad….

We were also surprised at how good their pizza is. Who wooda thought!?! The dough is made properly (00 flour and all that) to have a nice elastic pull but still providing a nice crunch. I usually don't like weird pizzas (I'm a sausage/pepperoni/mushroom kinda guy) but I loved Zach's chicken pizza. Give it a try. Wash it all down with our favorite: The White Namaste. Yum.

Oh… and the chiccharones. Made in house. Such a happy crunch. Also nice with that Namaste. (See those crispy little rascals and other good stuff in the photo gallery.)

A little back story: It's been a long time coming: On Saturday, May 7th, Dogfish Head fans bid a fond farewell to the original brewpub where the entire Dogfish Head brewing legacy began in 1995. But there was no dark cloud – only the silver lining as attendees congratulated Sam on his recent James Beard Award, wished him and his wife Mariah Calagione the best in their new expansion, all the while getting a sneak peek at the new restaurant complex.

I was honored to be a part of the media rollout on a Wednesday night in early May 2017, and wait until you see the place! Floating staircases, a fully professional stage, lighting and sound system (courtesy the pros at B&B Music & Sound) and an unusual but comfortably pubby menu (see my pick hits above). The holy grail of seating is in the little cylindrical 4-tops by the front windows. It's fun to watch people peer in and not see you. Check it out!

    The new renovation is fantastic. My family had lunch last week in the new building . Service was spot on. Food choices and preparation were excellent. We were lucky to get one of the port hole booths, a very clever concept.
