Goodness knows it's taken me long enough (and I appreciated the emails prodding me along), but I'm finally in the process of reviewing The Backyard restaurant in Milton.
I'm not finished, but I wanted to tell you about a couple of the stars of the show: First, Grit Fritters! Like grits? These are buttery, cheesy and creamy all at once, and they remain moist even as they cool. A light, flavorful crust enrobes the little morsels. If these consistently come out of the kitchen the way I had them today, you're gonna love 'em. Second: The cookies! mudslide and snickerdoodles stand out, though the oatmeal raisin and chocolate chips are close contenders.
