Well, you heard it here first, kids! It isn't easy doing business in the ocean block of Rehoboth Avenue, and one of the latest to fall by the wayside is Nonna's Sweet Treats, where Capriotti's used to be (for a very short time) on the north side next to Nicola Pizza. Nonna (Catherine Beck) and her relatives had her fill of all the ocean-block expense and effort, and has handed over her little pastry shop to her former baker and employee, John Parana.
John has morphed the little spot into Avenue 67 Cafe, touting a relaxed atmosphere, pastries, Italian specialties, ice cream, waffles and beachy goodies. We hope that John remembers to add that whisper of anise in the pizzelles, and keeps putting out thoseĀ amazing liege waffles with the chunks of caramelized sugar. John is open for business. Visit him and tell him The Rehoboth Foodie sentcha.
Check out John's nice-looking Facebook page.
We wish him the best of luck! We'll keep you posted.
We had breakfast there yesterday, and it was marvelous. Try the 67 breakfast sandwich with avocado – YUM! And I could write another paragraph about the pastries!
