First State Corn & More

/ Updated on June 15, 2023

The VERY popular food truck that used to be in the Aldi parking lot behind Chick-fil-A is now a real walk-up on Rehoboth Avenue. Kathryn Robinson and her husband James have opened their First State Corn & More spot in the old Glazed space next to The Ice Cream Store on the south side of the ocean block of Rehoboth Avenue.

This unusual eatery features their very own style of Mexican Street Corn and it is simply delicious with creme, butter (of course!), sauces, seasonings and, of course, cheese. There are several versions of the corn, and it's a tossup for my favorites – either the Buffalo Blue Cheeze version or the equally tasty Garlic Crab version. You can't go wrong with either.

But it's not all about corn! Kathryn's own Cuban is delicious, with no one flavor dominating the taste. Crunchy toasted Cuban bread (nice and thin!) cradles roast pork, swill, baked ham with mustard and mild pickles. It's a Cuban with which to be reckoned.

I know there are a lot of good burgers around here, and now we have to add First Street Corn & More's burger to the list. A fresh 7oz. patty consisting of a proprietary blend of cuts is simply topped with onion, cheese and mayo. For a buck more you can kick it up with bacon and/or blue cheese. Go ahead: Life is short – get both.

I was also surprised with the size and quality of the shrimp at this tiny walk-up spot. I had the Buffalo Shrimp basket with cheese + blue cheese and drizzled with Ranch. You can also get a pulled pork sandwich that they actually slow-roast overnight. I like to splatter it with Chip Hearn's “Peppers” mild hot sauce. Somehow it all works.
