The owners of Gilligan's Lewes have decided to close the restaurant. Family and health issues have made the day-to-day operation of the restaurant more difficult than it had to be.
A spirited crowd filled the restaurant last night (Saturday, 1/25) to wish the owners well. The entire crowd joined in for a rousing rendition of auld lang syne to commemorate the occasion. Thank you Steve Hyle for the FB live images.
In response to this Facebook post, there are always people who wail and lament the “restaurant failures around here,” “another one bites the dust,” etc., etc, blah blah blah. My experience has shown that restaurants close for many reasons. Yes, the majority of reasons have to do with profitability, skill, location, etc., but there are other successful operations that closed for personal reasons totally unrelated to finances. The two most recent closings around here (Gilligan's being one) fall into that category. For some, money becomes secondary to quality of life and peace of mind.
The Gilligan's Bar & Grill in Milton is still going strong with live entertainment every weekend and the wildly popular Sunday brunch. Things will probably even get better there as the owners focus all their attention on that popular location.
We wish the Tilton family the best!
For those of us that bought gift certificates, can we use them in Milton?
I suggest you call Gilligan’s Milton and ask them….
