For a short time, the ill-fated and legally entangled Beachside Grill on Rehoboth Avenue (next door to Catcher's and Hotel Rehoboth) was taken over by Fins Hospitality Group's El Jefe Gordo, a casual Mexican concept. Unfortunately, it didn't last long.
The operation was recently purchased by Realtor and former Aqua Grill owner Joe Maggio. (As an aside, his former partner just sold Aqua Grill on Baltimore Avenue to the owners of The Pines restaurant.)
Maggio and partner Tony Sacco plan to turn the casual and outdoor-oriented spot into an Italian aperitivo bar, a concept similar to Azzurro Italian Oven at the corner of Wilmington Avenue and 2nd St. where Chez la Mer and Papa Grande's used to be.
The proposed name of the new seasonal venture will be Port 251 (it's at 251 Rehoboth Avenue).
We'll keep you posted as the local info comes in.
