The Café on 26

/ Updated on September 4, 2014

The crab cake is a sleeper at The Café on 26 in Ocean View! I'm in the process of putting together a new review and I wanted to tell you about it now just in case you are down in the southern hinterlands and feeling peckish for crustacean. I have encountered very few crab cakes in the area that have so much lump and backfin meat for such a fair price (the crab cake sandwich is only $14).

It is very lightly sauteed, and other than a tiny hint of Old Bay, I taste no other filler whatsoever. At lunch it is served on a very nice soft roll.

Check out The Café on 26 at 84 Atlantic Avenue, just a block or two west of where Central Avenue intersects Rt. 26 (Atlantic Ave.). I still have a couple more visits to do, but you can click here to see the lunch menu. Click here to see the dinner menu (note that the menu changes very frequently). The new review should be posted within a week or two.

It is really difficult to make a bad grilled cheese sandwich, but this place managed to do so. It was too crunchy and so dry inside. Their version of “slaw” was broccoli florets, a few pieces of onion, and a few slivers of carrot in a tiny bowl with no dressing to be seen. And the service……so VERY slow. It was not like the place was full…..there were perhaps 20 patrons or fewer. Will not be returning here, that is for sure!
