New Building @ Rehoboth Avenue Ext.

/ Updated on September 10, 2017

The new construction at the very end of Rehoboth Avenue is a warehouse/storage facility for the Boardwalk Plaza and The Point Coffee House. The property is owned by the Zerby family that owns the two businesses. Jeff Zerby is very mindful of the high-profile location of the building and is designing it to look attractive – like a hotel, in fact, and not at all like a warehouse. We'll keep you posted.

Thanks for the enlightenment. I had been watching steady progress on this site for a few months, and thanks to Google found this discussion from earlier in the year to explain what on Earth is going in there (there is no “Coming Soon”-type sign). Totally agree with Christine that it’s nuts to have a warehouse at this location in the summertime, but they can always load/unload weekdays/nights. It would be nerve-wracking working in there worried that someone who’s lost or drunk might plough right into the building. Hopefully not.

Ahh haaa, the mystery is solved. Once I saw the overnight assembly I wondered if it would be some new restaurant with large windows and perhaps outside decking? Then I worried about the spindly supports and why is it so high? The scale is far too large for the lot size, too bad it’s so in your face as we wait for the light to cycle. It’s going to take a lot of lipstick to dress-up this porker. Storage, really, really?

Why are they allowing a storage facility almost next to another storage facility on Rt. 1? Is there such a great demand for all of these facilities?

Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to the approval and building of just about anything here. Planning and Zoning and Sussex County Council never met a building or a development they didn’t like. This was not the place for this warehouse and I, also, would like to see the finished drawing, not that it matters. Anything goes it seems!

It would be nice to see a post of the architect’s drawing of the finished product. How could a building of this size be allowed to go up at the gateway to Rehoboth? Are there no height limits on new construction? I recently read a letter to the editor in the Cape Gazette complaining about how the new municipal building is out of character with the town’s architecture. We’ll see what comments this addition inspire.

I agree. You know they have the model or drawing sitting in their office.

I am dumbfounded as you are. Ridiculous location for a warehouse. Imagine as trucks/cars try to get in and out of there during the summer traffic.
