John’s Brick Oven Pizzeria is the very first pizza joint we visited in NYC. After much shuffling around (and the sad closing of the iconic John’s Brick Oven spot on Bleeker St. (they are not affiliated with the John’s that is now on Bleeker), they now have three locations. I have already written about the Times Square location at 260 W. 44th St., just west of Broadway (212-391-7560), and now when we go to Arthur Avenue, we alternate between Full Moon Pizzeria and the new John’s Brick Oven Pizzeria just a few doors up on Arthur Avenue.
There’s nothing like pizza baked in a coal-fired oven (1000 degrees!). The pies cook in a matter of minutes, puffing up deliciously with a slight char here and there. And their sausage is sublime. My favorite? Italian sausage, pepperoni and mushroom.
No trip to Manhattan is complete without a visit to the John’s on 44th between Broadway and 8th. Now we can do it when we visit Arthur Avenue.
