The Rehoboth Beach Gingerbread Contest, set for December 9 and 10 at Epworth UM Church, will have gingerbread and much more. The event begins on Saturday at 11 am and concludes on Sunday at 2 pm. Activities include children's crafts, a visit from Santa, and a visit by micro miniature horse Silver Wings from Angelic Touch Therapy Animals, a display of winter and Christmas-themed quilts on loan from Ocean Waves Quilt Guild, a model train garden, and a cafe selling apple cider, hot chocolate, freshly baked cookies and hot dogs.
A detailed event schedule can be found on the website, www.gingerbreadjoy.org.
Event proceeds will support Epworth's Christmas Joy and Good Sam programs, The West Rehoboth Children & Youth Program, and provide aid to homeless students in the Cape Henlopen School District. Funds will be raised by a People's Choice Vote Fundraiser, deciding the winning entries in four amateur divisions: adult, high school, family, and non-profit organization. Tickets are one dollar each or six tickets for five dollars. Professional entries will be sold by silent auction. Voting and auction will end at 1 pm on Sunday afternoon. Admission is free.
I hope everybody who can will stop by here. I do not even belong to this church but they truly deserve our support, thank you Foodie for the article! They shelter homeless on rough weather nights, feed hungry people, and host so many worthwhile community projects. They even put a skate park (yes…at church) for the skateboarders as other grouchy nearby towns wrote pricey tickets for violating the law to the kids. Grinches! What a lovely way to see the artistry of the gingerbread houses. Hopefully some baked treats for sale by the time we get there, got a hankering for gingerbread and cream cheese icing!!
