After over 35 years of success, the iconic 1776 restaurant in Midway will be sold in the next couple of months. The new owner, Regan Derrickson, is no stranger to restauranting here at the beach and promises the same high quality and hometown “feel” for which current owners Tom Holmes and Tammy Mozingo are known.

Tom has always been the most hospitable restaurant owner, always making sure we are satisfied with seating, our server, and dinner. Have been coming almost 20 yrs, Never disappointed.

I agree with Al about the loudness. I think iits caused by the hard surfaces, with nothing to absorb the sounds bouncing off. Perhaps draps or something similar would help.
Please do not change a thing. It’s old school charm with good food, service and prices. Do not destroy this with new, bright, open modern touches – there’s enough of that down here already. And cherish the excellent staff you’ll inherit. Don’t change a thing!
Please please please make sure that remodeling results in a cozy classic steakhouse type of atmosphere. Nothing bright, loud. Rich, warm atmosphere.
Please dont change a thing. The food, the staff, the welcoming feeling and the atmosphere are all top notch. Change isnt always good!

I usually see a sea of white hair during our early evening sittings so I understand the trepidation from so many about changes.
We agree that sometimes it can be a little noisy but we are often walk ins so our tables are often right by the piano ( and the kitchen door)
We seldom if ever eat in the bar area but we are bar eaters elsewhere.
Although we are not big fans of change we anxiously await to see what the new owner has in store for us and that will determine our future visits.
Keep the Escargot as it is please.

Leave the decor alone! Actually, leave everything alone, including the pianist! It is by far the best and classiest restaurant in Sussex County. Food and service are wonderful. Please let it stay that way!
1776 is our favorite restaurant! Makes me sad that ANYTHING will change.
Please do not give 1776 the modern, sterile makeover! I, too, would not feel inclined to continue to dine there.
The current “look” of 1776 is absolutely, 100% perfect. In my opinion, there is absolutely no way possible to improve upon it. In addition to the incredible food and great service, the reason 1776 is so extremely popular is for its warm coziness. Any so-called “new look” will, without question, take away from this long time local standout. I’m hoping the new ownership will reconsider altering the establishment just for the sake of change. If they were to give it a “modern” makeover, I myself will be less likely to dine there as frequently as I do. I am sure this sentiment is shared by most long time patrons of 1776.
One negative is that it’s so loud in there. You can’t have a conversation even at a table for two. The food is great but the acoustics need to be addressed. You can never hear the piano player.
