Espuma chef/owner Jay Caputo has partnered with Greenville's BBC Tavern & Grill owner David Dietz to convert the former Rehoboth Beach Running Company (where they discovered the old Veedol sign) into Flying A BBQ & Crabs, giving a respectful nod to the gas station that used to be on that spot (hence the old logo to the left–not the restaurant's logo, by the way). They will also serve Italian water ice and crepes.
David Dietz was the previous owner of the Brandywine Brewing Company(where Pizza by Elizabeth's is now) and was a partner at Shaggy's in Newark. (Those of us of a certain age might remember the Pizza by Elizabeth's that occupied the Eden space in Rehoboth many years ago.)
There's still a lot of work to be done, but that corner at Lake and The Avenue has lots of visibility, so if these guys do it right it might very well be a success. Mid-July is the target at this point.
