My original article about Arena's was on September 11, 2009. Seems like a long time ago. I've added many updates since then, of course, but it just seemed right to polish things up and add a bunch of new photos in the process. After all, Arena's is one of the sandwich mainstays here at the beach.

Arena's original location is in the Village by the Sea shopping center in Rehoboth Beach (sort of a big commercial alleyway that connects the second blocks of Rehoboth and Baltimore avenues). They have a huge list of sandwiches, appetizers, main courses and a ton of interesting beers, some of which you won't find anywhere else in town. When they are busy, things are tight in there and service can be a little distracted and off-handed. But once they make it to the table and everybody warms to one another, all is well. Especially if you are on your second Abita Turbodog. Speaking of delivery, they do. They also have live music on the weekends.

I order the California Club Dude (it's a sandwich, ladies). With all that turkey, avocado, jack cheese, alfalfa sprouts and tomatoes, it may seem dangerously healthy…so, I do what any self-respecting foodie would do: Add bacon! It really rounds it out (if I'm not careful, it's going to round ME out). I also like their nachos (served in various forms). You also can't beat their mountainous BLT served on their always-fresh toasted whole wheat (gotta be healthy, y'know!). Another sleeper is the Cheesesteak.

You can build your own sandwich, choosing the meats, bread, veggies, etc., etc. So there's always something for everyone. Note that they also have half-price nights during the week, featuring various specials on sandwiches, tacos, etc. Check the Cheap Eats/Specials List on this site for up-to-date info.

Arena's has five locations. The original one is described above at 149 Rehoboth Avenue (don't bother looking for the address. Just look for the all-brick “Village by the Sea” center. 302-227-1272).

The next closest location is out on Highway One, just north of the canal bridge, next door to Big Fish Grill (302-226-2233). Interestingly, I continue to receive spotty service at this location, often sitting for several minutes while servers converse amongst themselves. Management? Probably. Arena's also has a location in Lewes at Villages of Five Points where Rt. 9/404 intersects with Highway One (15134 North Main Village in Five Points. 302-644-0370).

If you are trekking out to Long Neck, Arena's is also in that big shopping center near the Giant Food store on Rt. 24 near Long Neck Road. Arena's location at the Georgetown Airport is a lot of fun, and replaces the nasty restaurant that used to inhabit that poor food-deprived aerodrome. Arena's is just what this place needed. Arena's also has a big presence in Milford, directly across from Gigante grocery store at 200 NE Front St. Their number is 302-422-3354. The most recent Arena's installation is in Newark, DE.

"My goal is to promote Rehoboth Beach dining while remaining honest and impartial. I don’t gush unless a place deserves it, and I don’t pull punches, either. With so many good places to eat around here, it just doesn’t make sense to waste the calories — or the money — on anything less." View all articles written by The Rehoboth Foodie

Arenas is consistently good. Highway 1 location has a$9 Buffet Sunday brunch with an Omelet station. $4 bloodys and Mimosas. Always specials running. Good service and a very generous rewards card—be sure to sign up for one!

We have heard good things about Arena’s so we decided to go to the Five Point location for lunch. When you walk in the front door you are on your own so you figure out you seat yourself. Service was slow. Food was good. BUT when you see a baby getting their diaper changed on the bench seat next to you it grosses you out!!!!! Management didn’t, say a word and Didn’t clean the seat. Would you eat there again???????

I am a regular at Arenas and for good reason. The people are always great and the sandwiches are the best in town. Like the other commentor state, you wont go away hungry. Oh, and the nachos – a meal for two. Great specials, especially the $5 cheese steaks on sundays.
