The Wharf

/ Updated on May 17, 2014

The Wharf has opened under new management with a brand new menu. It was no secret that the old Fisherman’s Wharf restaurant was getting a bit long in the tooth. A change was needed in order to take full advantage of that almost-perfect waterfront location in Lewes harbor. A new review is in the works.

In the meantime, take a look at their website for menus, hours, etc.

The Wharf is located at 7 Anglers Road, just over the drawbridge on the left as you approach the bay.

There’s lots of free parking, and in summer the outside deck is busy with boaters and guests alike. They offer entertainment in the dock bar area, and are also open for lunch. An upstairs banquet room hires out for weddings, funerals, bar mitzvahs, business meetings, holiday parties, brit malahs and the like.

Give ’em a call in the off-season to double check (y’never know…) at 302- 645-7846. (B. (weekends only), L., D, Bar). Price range: Moderate.

My husband and 2 friends were there for lunch Sunday, June 18th. The staff was pleasant, the food mediocre at best and the place looks tired and in need of a good cleaning. We expected more from such a prime location.

  2. Nancy says:

My husband and I ate their this weekend and we were both very pleased with our choices. My husband had the flounder sandwich served on ciabatta bread. I had the beet salad with shrimp both were large portions and delicious. Will definitely go back.

I heard it was bought by JC? They lost me this July 4 when they had a sudden change of dog rules. Can a place with the best location in Lewes continually fail? Dumping on the locals is never a good idea.

No, JC looked at it, but nothing so far. The dog rules change is because of the DE health department enforcing its current dog rules more stringently. It was not the restaurant’s sole decision.

My wife and I moved to Lewes in April, 2012 — on our first three or four visits in the following months, the food and ambience were both quite good in this place, although our neighbors told us the Wharf had deteriorated from what it once was as a restaurant. This year, 2013, our visits there were decidedly disappointing … only surviving menu was the bar menu, no special dishes, and the food and preparation had both deteriorated drastically. We share the wish of other commenters that someone truly make a go of a restaurant in this superb location.

The dining room is run down and service was fair. Quality of food has gone down and the price did go up. It is a shame because it is a great location for a meal or a quick drink. Some type of entertainment would also be a nice touch. There are plenty of other great places to eat in town! We did try eating at different times throughout the year….I think that we will skip the Wharf overall!

  6. Debbie says:

We ate here a few weeks ago and both the service and food was good. I had the blackened shrimp cobb salad..yummy. Only comment is the salads are nice sized but served in a bowl too small not leaving enough room to really mix it up. It was busy and the vibe was good!
