Seemed time for an update to this article – the first was several years ago when they first opened. So many restaurants, but only one of me! Big Oyster Brewery on Kings Highway in Lewes is a major go-to spot. The brewery/restaurant has a nice-sized pub area with a full kitchen reminiscent of the other Fins restaurants. The inside is huge — one of the largest brewery pubs I've seen, next to Dogfish Head in Rehoboth. And the decor is very clever – check out the boat motors. And I won't give away the secret, but when you go into the bathrooms … listen.

The newest addition (as of 2021) is the huge outdoor seating area. It sports an entertainment stage and also a tented area to protect from the weather. The new brewery has expanded Big Oyster's reach as a brewery, and many other restaurants – both in and outside Delaware – are serving their popular brews.

Over the last couple of years we have had the crab corn chowder, the grilled romaine and the wedge salad. All were quite good. Most recently we enjoyed two surprises: The Fried Oyster Po'Boy (a favorite at Fins – add bacon and it's the Peacemaker) and also longtime Cape Region server Chippers. We first met him at the long-gone Pig & Fish in downtown Rehoboth. Super nice guy and never without a joke or funny comment. The flatbread pizza was quite good, and we also had the burger and the mac & cheese. We WILL be back.

The brewery has a nice-sized pub area with a full kitchen reminiscent of the other Fins restaurants. On a recent visit we had the duck breast/scallop special. We had to look into the brewery area to remind ourselves that this was actually a brewpub – this dish could have stood on its own at any number of fine-dining joints in town. Of course we had to start with the chili/cheese fries – it was cold and rainy outside and we all know that stuff like that has no calories when it's cold and rainy outside. Another must-get is the burger. And it comes with an egg on it. It was quite good, and the roll was exceptional.

When you go to the new Big Oyster Brewery, try to get one of the coveted stools at the window (the window is the opening where the kitchen passes food through to the servers). Though that particular window is not often employed for that express purpose, it's still a lot of fun to watch the kitchen crew do their stuff. I like the place and have been back three times since the media party, in addition to playing there in my band 2nd Time Around. Big Oyster Brewery and pub is at 1007 Kings Highway in Lewes, almost directly across from Mr. P's Pizzeria.

Hours are 11:30AM–9PM weekdays and until 10 on Fridays and Saturdays. Give them a call at (302) 644-2621. Kudos to Jeff & Kim Hamer and their entire Fins Hospitality Group team.

I am a huge Fins fan but not this one !! At the Big Oyster the beer is wonderful, the service always attentive and smooth but the food, for me way misses the mark. I was there Thursday had the cream of crab soup — filled with crab and unfortunately filled with SALT. Then I had the wedge salad with Ranch dressing….the ranch dressing had so much garlic that it was inedible and it ruined the salad. I talked with one of the kitchen/serving staff who apologized and said that most people liked the Ranch dressing. I wish they had some of Fins preparations, like the Chopped Salad.

Big Oyster Brewery is an outstanding complement to the various brew pubs in the area. We love their selections of their own and guest beers and their Friday Happy Hour all day is a real hit. The one limitation is that there are only about 50 community seats and limited parking on the premises. One can park down the road at their market but that’s limiting for people like us who need handicapped parking

The food was very good and looks like will be a fun place. One problem is the dinning seating is very uncomfortable. Chairs are to close with the back to back table set up.

Love this place! The grilled Caesar is sumptuous with some Salmon. The beer is cold crisp and good. We really enjoy the selection. Plus Chip the best waiter works there too! What more can we want!?

We’ve been there twice in the past week…love it! Their steamer basket is delectable and the Purple something or another beer was something out of the normal realm and I loved it!

Thumbs up for the Happy Hour short rib poutine. Great service, we will be back!

LOVED our dinner (feature fish tacos and flank steak wrapped in lettuce)!!!! The beer of course was delish. Kevin got the coffee stout, and I the Chloe. The menu is fresh and full of veggie options. Love that! The food was prepared perfectly. The service was awesome even though we sat outside on a busy Saturday night. It doesn’t get any better than this- great food and gazing at the Harvest moon.

Went to the Big Oyster Brewery this past Sunday for their Happy Hour prices and was not disappointed. Ordered their steamed oysters, fish tacos, and washed it down with their Octoberfest brew which I thought was as good as what I remember dogfish head is, and at $3.50 a glass, lots easier to swallow!

Stopped in for lunch with a friend. Sat outside in the back on a nice sunny afternoon. We enjoyed a wedge salad and a crab cake sandwich – both delicious.
Paid with two partial gift cards and cash, but was told the machine was not working and couldn’t use the gift cards. More customer friendly service would have been to just run the cards when the machine was back up.

This is wonderful I’m so excited after living in Lewes 17 years my favorite place has a carry out coming ! Can’t wait to see what’s coming…..

The new Fins Seafood Market coming to the Mr P’s shopping center is the best news I’ve seen in your postings in a while. I believe they’ll do a booming business, and hope they can find a way to keep their prices reasonable enough to stay open all year.
