Brick Works Open

/ Updated on August 28, 2016

Longtime Cape Region chef and entrepreneur Kevin Reading, partner in the new Brick Works in Smyrna reports that Chefs Paul Gallo of Abbott's Grill in Milford & Ryan Cunningham of Abbott's on Broad Creek in Laurel have been promoted to new roles in the organization.

Brick Works Brewing & Eats opened with Paul Gallo as kitchen boss. Cunningham, a Johnson & Wales Culinary Arts graduate, has been named Abbott’s Corporate Chef & will oversee the menus & operations of both locations as well as Abbott’s catering division.

Brick Works is a joint venture between Abbott’s & Mispillion River Brewing Company. Abbott's owner, chef & celebrated restaurateur Kevin Reading will take on a larger kitchen presence at Abbott’s Grill in Milford alongside of Cunningham.

Kevin, Eric Williams and Ryan Maloney of Mispillion River Brewing Co. have located Brick Works Brewing & Eats in the Commodore Commons Shopping Center on Rt. 13 (former home of Casapulla’s) in Smyrna, Delaware. The combination of Abbott’s food and a 7-barrel system cranking out Eric’s tasty brews (not to mention their great can/bottle artwork!) promises to be a slam dunk. Smyrna recently launched a booze jitney, the Delaware Brew Bus, that takes private groups to distilleries such as Blue Earl and Painted Stave.

With Painted Stave Distilling’s operation, Willey Farm Market, Sheridan’s Irish Pub,  Blue Earl Brewery and Abbott’s/Mispillion’s new venture (not to mention partners Howard Johnson and Donna Ignasz’ rather upscale Inn at Duck Creek), I guess I’m going to have to add a “Smyrna/Townsend” category to RehobothFoodie.com.

We’ll keep you posted.
