Want a Job as a Chef?

The First State Community Action Agency and the Dept. of Labor are offering a career-oriented Adult Culinary Arts Training Program. Orientation regarding the program will be held on August 28 and 29 from 10-12 noon at FSCAA at 308 N. Railroad Ave. in Georgetown. The actual classes last for 18 weeks (October – February) and are taught by professional chef and instructor Gary Papp at the Central Sussex Culinary School at 211 Race St. in Georgetown.

Successful graduates will receive the ServSafe and DE ABC Server certifications.

In order to be eligible, applicants must be at least 18, have a valid DE drivers license, possess a Social Security Card, must be a DE resident, must provide proof of citizenship, be registered with the Selective Service (if male) and born after 1960. Most importantly, applicant must demonstrate the willingness to obtain and keep a full-time job. The program is open to job-seekers only and is not avocational or hobby-oriented.

This program is open only to job-seekers who are willing to work hard to successfully complete the program and then exhibit the maturity and wherewithal to get and keep a job in the food industry.
