Midway’s Roadhouse OPEN

/ Updated on July 14, 2017

More Breaking Chews from The Rehoboth Foodie! Delaware Distilling Company in Midway did NOT become a Hooters. It isn’t a Roosters. (I told you so!). What it IS is a blast from the past: Roadhouse Bar & Grill! Sound familiar? But the cowboy theme (and the mechanical bull) have been put out to pasture. The new theme is Rt. 66, cool cars and roadside memories.

Longtime local restaurateur and Conch Island Key West Bar & Grill owner Bryan Derrickson and his wife Olivia have teamed up to bring a Route 66 vibe, approachable pub fare – and a respectful nod to the past – to that history-filled building in Midway. Many of the favorites from Bryan’s menu at Conch Island (don’t miss the conch chowder) will make an appearance, PLUS steaks, wings, ribs and burgers. One of the features is happy hour throughout the entire restaurant – not just at the bar. A couple of the sleepers at Conch Island are Bryan’s steaks and burgers – so diners might be in for a it looks like we’re in for a surprise.

Former professional drummer and law enforcement guy Bryan Derrickson runs an upbeat and clubby atmosphere at Conch Island and plans on keeping that vibe – with a hint of Rt. 66 drama – at the new Roadhouse Bar & Grill.

In an interesting turn of historical events, Bryan’s grandfather created the long-gone Midway Drive-In Theater there on the site where the Midway Shopping Center is now. Bryan’s grandmom had a special BBQ Burger that was very popular with the in-car moviegoers. As a tribute to her and to his family that was the driving force behind the Midway complex, he has resurrected the BBQ Burger and it’s featured on the menu at Roadhouse.

The Rehoboth Foodie broadcasted the Sip & Bite Show LIVE from Conch Island on Saturday June 24th. Click here to hear Hour #1. And here to listen to Hour #2.

Congrats, Bryan and Olivia!

  2. Bill Ferreri says:

WE were regulars at DDC since it opened. Visited the Roadhouse tonight for the first time. What a disappointment. I have heard some people say that DDC was dark. The Roadhouse is a dungeon. My drink of choice always came in a generous glass on the rocks priced at $8.50. Now the glass is 1/3 smaller priced at $10.00. This is just another tourist trap. Residents should stay away. What a shame. Some of the nicest people we met at the beach,, we met at DDC. I guess we will find a new watering hole. Will miss it.

  5. Carole says:

What happened to DDC? We only went there a few times, but we liked the people and the food. I haven’t seen anything in the paper so this comes as a shock.

Awesome news! Initially I was upset to see the Distillery close. We really liked going there for their pork shanks and great happy hours deals! The manager was always so nice to usl I hope he will continue on at the Roadhouse. I wish great success to all! Looking forward to checking it out!
