Chef Jay has Left the Building

/ Updated on November 30, 2014

James Beard nominated Chef Jay Caputo's arrangement with the owners of Rose & Crown has ended, and he is no longer directly associated with the restaurant. We have every reason to believe that the popular watering hole and eatery in the Hotel Rodney will continue to provide the same level of food and service it has provided for the past several years.

When the Mitchell family gave up the old Rose & Crown on Second Street many years ago, devotees were devastated, but Jay and his associates reinvented the popular spot at the corner of Market & Second Sts. in downtown Lewes. Read more about Rose & Crown.

Hey Foodie – I heard a rumor that Jay & Co are going to open a distillery/micro brew restaurant in the former Kindle location in Paynter’s Mill. Any truth to that whisper?

Foodie, what is going on with Jay’s new restaurant on Rehoboth Ave? It appears as though construction has stopped.

It’s just taking a very long time. They have to put in a complete kitchen and pretty much had to rebuild the building to add onto the original construction. Not to mention the old tanks of gas below the building that had to be removed by Hazmat teams. It’s been a challenge, I’m sure.
